Building Voices
Matt Litteral’s Journey to Elevating Podcasting in Sacramento
In this month’s Impact & Influence Magazine, we sit down with Matt Litteral, the visionary owner of Sacramento Podcast Studio, to discuss his remarkable journey in building a premier podcasting facility in the heart of the region. From humble beginnings to creating one of the most sought-after studio spaces, Matt shares the challenges, triumphs, and lessons he’s learned along the way. His dedication to providing top-tier podcasting services has not only elevated the local media landscape but also helped countless entrepreneurs, content creators, and brands amplify their voices.
1. What inspired you to start the podcast studio?
It all started with a radio show podcast I did with my best friend, Jon Robert Quinn. We had such a great time that I created another podcast, Dad Talk, where I shared dad jokes. I kept investing in better equipment, storing everything in a 10x10 climate-controlled unit with no power. As I upgraded gear, I saw the potential for a full studio where others could create without worrying about the technical side. That led to Sacramento Podcast Studio, where we help creators focus on their content.
2. How do you see the podcasting landscape evolving over the next few years, particularly in Sacramento?
Podcasting is catching on in Sacramento, and I see it growing exponentially in the next decade. More businesses and individuals are realizing its potential for marketing and branding. It’s becoming more accessible, and with advances in AI, we may even see virtual hosts and avatars in podcasting. The key to growth is affordability, and that’s why we focus on making high-quality production available to everyone, from beginners to seasoned professionals.
3. What are some common mistakes new podcasters make when starting out, and how can they avoid them?
One big mistake is not testing their comfort level with the mic before committing to a full show. Many people jump in without realizing how much consistency and preparation podcasting requires. Another mistake is poor audio quality—bad sound can turn listeners away fast. I always recommend starting simple, practicing with a few test recordings, and focusing on clear, engaging content rather than getting caught up in expensive equipment or overproduction.
4. What sets Sacramento Podcast Studio apart from other podcast studios, and how do you ensure that clients’ needs are met in such a competitive market?
We focus on making podcasting as easy as possible for our clients. Our studio is designed for creators of all levels, offering professional audio recording with a hassle-free experience. Unlike some studios that just rent out space, we provide hands-on support, editing, and long-term marketing assistance. We’ve also helped clients grow significantly—one of our clients, a 17-year-old with 150,000 followers, used our studio to elevate her brand and now has over 200,000 followers.
5. What role does podcasting play in business marketing and branding, and how can businesses best leverage podcasting to grow their audience?
Podcasting is a powerful tool for businesses because it builds trust and authority in a way that traditional marketing can’t. It allows brands to connect with audiences on a personal level. Businesses can use podcasts to showcase expertise, share industry insights, and engage with potential customers. The key is to distribute content across multiple platforms—LinkedIn, YouTube, and social media—to maximize reach. Featuring guests and collaborating with influencers can also help grow an audience faster.
6. What advice do you have for entrepreneurs and small business owners who are considering launching a podcast but aren’t sure where to start?
Start simple and just get started—don’t overthink it. Many people delay launching because they think they need perfect equipment or a studio setup. The reality is, all you need is a clear message and consistency. Know your audience, deliver value, and commit to a schedule. Don’t forget to market your podcast—repurpose content for social media, bring on guests, and promote it everywhere. And if you want a hassle-free experience, Sacramento Podcast Studio is here to help.
7. Looking ahead, what’s next for Sacramento Podcast Studio? Are there any exciting projects or expansions you’re working on?
We’re expanding! Right now, we’re setting up a second podcast studio location in downtown Sacramento, making it even easier for creators to access high-quality recording spaces. My goal is to open two more locations in the future, providing a professional and accessible environment for podcasters of all levels. We’re also working on making the recording process as seamless as possible—investing in user-friendly cameras and technology so creators can focus on their content instead of the technical side. Beyond that, we’re continuing to develop new ways to support our clients, including long-term social media marketing, video editing, and AI-driven podcast assistance. Sacramento Podcast Studio is growing, and I’m excited to see how we can help more people share their voices.
8. What advice do you have for entrepreneurs and small business owners who are considering launching a podcast but aren’t sure where to start?
Start simple and just get started. A lot of people overthink the process and try to make everything perfect before they even record their first episode. The key is to start recording and get comfortable with the mic. You don’t need expensive equipment—just a clear message and consistency. Also, know your audience. Figure out who you’re talking to and what value you’re bringing them. Whether it's storytelling, industry insights, or entertainment, focus on making content that keeps listeners engaged. Another important thing is consistency. A lot of podcasts fail because they don’t stick to a regular schedule. Even if you start with one episode a month, commit to it and build from there. Lastly, don’t be afraid to market your podcast. Use social media, collaborate with guests, and repurpose content for platforms like YouTube, LinkedIn, and Instagram. The more places your content exists, the bigger your reach. And if you need a professional space or guidance, Sacramento Podcast Studio is here to help!
